Designing the “Styled by You!” Shoot

We are honored that unaoked. was chosen to debut Baker Party Rental’s “Styled by You!” series this July! Baker’s Marketing Director, and all-around-go-to-guy, Michael Mantyla, reached out earlier this summer to pitch his design and style challenge to us! I immediately knew it would be an honor to design a table-scape depicting unoaked.’s brand using the Baker warehouse of goodies! We are genuinely proud of the final product and the collaborators involved!

Finding our inspiration.
Our entire table design came from the unoaked. logo. Our brand is direct, clean, and unpredictable.

The inversion of the tree in our logo represents our non-traditional design style. We are rooted in strong tradition, but like to ‘flip-the-script’ making every event design, new, exciting, and unforgettable. We immediately knew we wanted the floral aspect of this table design to be an unexpected focal point. A floating green garden cascading DOWN toward the diners instead of the traditional floral arrangements standing UP was key in inspiring the rest of our table design.

We were lucky enough to find our floating garden in Melanie Rauscher, owner and designer at Bella Blooms Floral Design Studio. I brought my high hoped idea to Melanie and got more than I could have ever imagined possible. Melanie took our idea and created the perfect look to stand out as the focal point in our design. The combination of lush greens and contrasting textures provided the rich, free flowing, effect we needed to make this table one-of-a-kind. Melanie is a true gem and her work, always a stand out!

Shopping for the goods.
I felt strongly about taking this opportunity to express unoaked.’s view point, style, and namesake. We began by shopping on the extensive, and easy to use, Baker Party Rental’s website. There, we chose contrasting rustic and modern styles typically not paired with each other but brought together in an organic way, providing a clean final product, direct view point, and a beautiful dining setting.

We knew the weight of the design would be in the air above the guests meaning the table top needed to be balanced by a clean uncluttered setting. We were lucky enough to find the perfect Bella Twig Vases to support our floating garden and perfectly mirror unoaked.’s logo! Baker’s Zinc Farm Table brought the modern flare needed to elevate the design from “farm” to “elegant”.

A mixture of neutral colored chairs and a bench complimented the look adding a welcoming and relaxed feel to the design. We had the green of the earth in the garden and chose Baker’s beautiful Roma Blue Golbets to represent water by adding a striking accent of blue to the table. Rounding out the natural earth feel, we created custom hand-burnt place cards for each guest on wood chips.

A large tree stump wood block in the center of the table helped tie all of the accent pieces together. Candles in the Audrey Lanterns were the icing on the cake transforming this table-scape from elegant day to magical night. The final touch of hand-made invitations and menus provided by the talented James Luke Burke Creative completed the entire design.

Shooting the Shoot.
Steve Limones, of Steve Limones Photography, did an incredible job balancing the DIRECT CALIFORNIA SUMMER SUN (not a cloud in the sky!) and the mirror-like reflection of the zinc farm table top. Steve worked his magic capturing every angle and detail of this shoot. I could not have asked for a more diligent and patient photographer! His eye for the detailed shots is impeccable and top notch. Steve captured the true essence and feeling of our design perfectly. It was an absolute pleasure to partner with Steve on this project!

This was the perfect summer project for unoaked. We are humbled to have opportunity to express our design esthetic and vision. It was an honor to partner with this great team! I wish this table was in our home!

As always, please feel free to comment or email me with any questions!
